Congratulations to the Aged Care Respite team for their hard work and enthusiasm this Melbourne Cup Day. Beautiful decorations, delicious food, and fabulous hats, made it a fun day for all. They even made the Leader!
When it comes to the Melbourne Cup, a group of St George and Sutherland Shire seniors have shown you are never too old to party.
Civic staff @ Blackheath and the people we support took part in the Rhododendron Festival Grand Parade on Saturday 5/11/2011 to promote IDPwD Celebration Fete on the 3/12/11.
The event was held to celebrate “International Day of People with Disability”, to promote an understanding of people with disability and to acknowledge their contributions, skills and achievements in the community.
The day kicked off with the Stroll & Roll walk along the beachfront esplanade followed by hours of free entertainment and activities which included performances by people with a disability.
Several hundred people throughout the day enjoyed watching the stage performances while others shopped at the market stalls, and the youngsters enjoyed the reptile display, jumping castle, face painting and the football passing competition with the players from Sharkies.
The Shire’s State and Federal Members enjoyed the day and participated in some of the activities. We were also joined by the Minister for Ageing and Disabilities, Andrew Constance and the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley along with Member for Cronulla, Mark Speakman and Member for Heathcote, Lee Evans.
Civic Disability Services coordinated an enthusiastic and hard working group of disability organisations who worked together and contributed the free activities.
The sponsors of the event were Sutherland Shire Council and Lovely Care.
Plans are already underway for 2012 EmbraceAbility Day.
